Why My Preaching Is Different
I. The Authority I Stand On
The Word of God, Not Opinions
The King James Bible as my settled text.
No chasing fads or speculative “original” meanings.
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
>
— Psalm 12:6
Literal, Not Allegorical
Take God’s Word at face value.
Refuse to twist the text into theology it never taught.
Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.
>
— Romans 3:4
----------
II. The Method I Use
Verse by Verse, Word by Word
Preaching through the Bible, not around it.
Letting the text speak in its order and flow.
So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
>
— Nehemiah 8:8
Questioning Assumptions
Challenging clichés and traditions.
Always asking, “What does the text actually say?”
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
>
— 1 Thessalonians 5:21
----------
III. The Framework I Teach
Right Division
Paul’s gospel of grace distinct from Israel’s law and kingdom program.
Prophecy and mystery kept in their proper lanes.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
>
— 2 Timothy 2:15
Clarity, Not Confusion
No covenant promises stolen from Israel and forced onto the church.
God’s program for Israel is still intact.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
>
— 1 Corinthians 14:33
----------
IV. The Style I Deliver
Reason Over Feeling
Engage the mind before stirring the emotions.
Truth first, response second.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD.
>
— Isaiah 1:18
No Manipulation, No Invitation
I don’t pressure or coax decisions.
The Word works long-term, not in the heat of the moment.
Plain speech, no showmanship.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
>
— Romans 10:17
----------
V. The Aim I Have
Equipping, Not Entertaining
Preaching to build believers, not amuse crowds.
…for the edifying of the body of Christ.
>
— Ephesians 4:12
Independent Thinking Encouraged
Don’t repeat me—search the Scriptures for yourself.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
>
— Acts 17:11
Producing Christians Who Can Stand
Rooted, not tossed by every new trend.
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.
>
— Ephesians 4:14
----------
VI. The Result I Expect
Confidence in Scripture
People leave knowing the Bible itself, not just the preacher’s ideas.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
>
— 2 Timothy 3:16
Clarity in Doctrine
No uncertain trumpet—clear sound, clear teaching.
For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
>
— 1 Corinthians 14:8
Conviction That Lasts
What is rooted in truth endures when emotions fade.
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
>
— Colossians 2:7
